“Anyone But You” Movie Review

After a delicious dinner at Aegean Cafe in Sayville, my boyfriend and I went to see the latest rom-com, “Anyone But You” at Sayville Cinemas.
“Anyone But You” stars Sydney Sweeney, known for HBO-drama “Euphoria,” and Glen Powell.
The premise is quite simple, after a meet-cute at a coffee shot, Sweeney’s and Powell’s characters go on an all-day date, complete with a walk around their city and delicious grilled cheese inside Powell’s apartment.
They fall asleep after talking all night and Sweeney sneaks out without saying anything, but quickly changes her mind. When she returns, she overhears Powell speaking negatively about Sweeney to his roommate, played by GaTa.
Time goes by and the two end up meeting again at a bar, as Sweeney was accompanying her sister, played by Hadley Robinson, to celebrate her engagement to Claudia, played by Alexandra Shipp. She happens to be the sister of GaTa, which is why Powell was at the bar too.
The two were certainly not cordial at the bar, and their dislike for each other would be tested even further as Robinson and Shipp were planning a destination wedding in Australia.
With push from the family, and the desire to make exes jealous, Sweeney and Powell decide to pretend to date.
Overall, I have to say my boyfriend and I enjoyed the movie very much. We were whispering comments about it in each other’s ears and were giggling, as was much of the surprisingly crowded movie theater (it was a cold and rainy night).
I wouldn’t say this movie is witty however, rather more shocking, as the characters were acting pretty ridiculous and were doing things most people probably wouldn’t do, even in their situation.
Overall, this isn’t a movie you have to see in the theater. I actually think it’d be a fun movie to put on if you’re looking for something funny to watch at home. But, if you do go see it, this movie is not a complete waste of your time, as you will enjoy yourself.
As for the actors, everyone did a good job and they were all funny in their roles. I did like that you were able to get to know all the friends and family involved in this wedding, not just the two protagonists.
I will say this movie definitely uses it’s R rating. It’s not ridiculously scandalous, but I wouldn’t watch it with mom.
Have you seen “Anyone But You?” What do you think?
