In the second “Patchogue Plunge,” hosted by the Patchogue Young Professionals, the Gabby Petito Foundation will be supported on Feb. 13 (Superbowl Sunday.)
Founded by the parents of Gabby Petito, a former Blue Point resident whose life was tragically cut short during a cross-country road trip, the Gabby Petito Foundation will support organizations that assist in locating missing people and provide aide to victims of domestic violence.
The “Patchogue Plunge” is inspired by the Polar Plunge, a method of fundraising where volunteers go for a swim in the middle of the winter. The last plunge, held in 2019, supported the Kris Kringle Foundation, an organization that supports local families. In 2020, there was no plunge because of the pandemic.
“This year we are going to switch things up a bit,” said Benny Migliorino of the Patchogue Young Professionals.
Check in for the event will begin at Sandspit Marina at 9:30 a.m. and the plunge will then begin at 10 a.m. There will also be a 50/50 raffle onsite, and the winner will be announced at the Tap Room located nearby.
Migliorino, a photographer by trade, will be taking photos for the event.
Sign up is at least $30.
